Olive oil soap, like Aleppo soap, is traditionally made in regions where many olive trees grow, such as in south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria. This El Ruha Clove Soap is handmade in Antioch (south-eastern Turkey). A mixture of olive oil, laurel oil, and soda is heated in huge cauldrons and then poured into shallow basins. After the mixture has partially hardened over a few weeks, the soap is cut into blocks using a large comb-like tool. The soap is then left to dry for several months.
