Cooking with a tagine is a unique preparation method where flavors slowly meld together. You can prepare all kinds of dishes with a tagine, such as meat, fish, vegetables, or even fruit dishes. Thanks to the tagine's unique shape, aromas and juices circulate within the dish, making the food extra tender and full of flavor.
What is a tagine?
The tagine is a traditional Moroccan piece of cookware that consists of a shallow base with a conical lid. During cooking, steam circulates in the lid and moisture drips back into the dish. This keeps ingredients juicy and allows flavors to develop in a natural way.
Tagines are available in various designs and materials. The traditional tagine is made of earthenware, but nowadays there are also versions made of cast iron or other materials. Nevertheless, many Moroccan chefs prefer an earthenware tagine because they believe it gives the best flavor to dishes.
Handmade tagines from Marocstore
The tagines from Marocstore are handmade from natural clay using centuries-old Moroccan techniques. Through the use of earthenware and slow cooking, flavors are optimally absorbed, ensuring a rich and authentic culinary experience.
In addition to traditional earthenware tagines, we also offer other types of tagines in our range, for example, made from other materials.
Using a tagine on different heat sources
Tagine in the oven
All earthenware tagines can be used in the oven. Please note that you should not preheat the oven. Place the tagine in a cold oven and let it come up to temperature slowly to prevent thermal shock.
Tagine on gas
Earthenware tagines are suitable for use on a gas stove. It is important to heat the tagine slowly. A flame diffuser can help to distribute the heat more evenly, but is not always necessary.
Tagine on induction
Traditional earthenware tagines are not suitable for use on induction by default. If you still want to use an earthenware tagine on an induction cooktop, you can use an induction adapter plate.
Tagine on charcoal or barbecue
Earthenware tagines are also excellent for use on charcoal. You can use a tagine base (majmar) for this purpose. Furthermore, cooking with a tagine on a barbecue is also possible and provides an authentic flavor experience.
